Stephen FIENBERG selected to give R.A. Fisher Lecture

Professor Stephen E. FIENBERG selected to give the R.A. Fisher Lecture at the 2015 Joint Statistical Meetings in North America. The lectureship was established in 1963 by the North American Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS) in recognition of the British statistician Ronald Aylmer Fisher. It is considered a very high recognition of achievement and scholarship in statistical sciences and recognizes the highly significant impact of statistical methods on scientific investigations. Professor Stephen FIENBERG is the Maurice Falk University Professor of Statistics and Social Science with appointments in the Department of Statistics, the Heinz College, and the Machine Learning Department and he is co-director of the Living Analytics Research Centre.

LARC is delighted to announce that our Research Scientist, Dr. DAI Bing Tian has been selected as one of the young scholars for the PTC’ 14 Young Scholars Program.

PTC’s Young Scholar Program aims to recognize, encourage, and support up-and-coming scholars in the field of information and communication technologies (ICTs).

Dr DAI has been invited to present his research paper at PTC’s 36th consecutive annual conference, which will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii from 19 – 22 January 2014.

Professor Stephen FIENBERG Elected as Councillor of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences

Professor Stephen FIENBERG is elected to serve a three-year term on the Council of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, beginning 1 July 2013. The National Academy of Sciences is a private, nonprofit institution that was established under a congressional charter signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. It recognizes achievement in science by election to membership, and—with the National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council—provides science, technology, and health policy advice to the federal government and other organizations.

Appointment as Editor-in-Chief of the Annals of Applied Statisticss

Professor Stephen FIENBERG, Co-Director of LARC and Maurice Falk University Professor of Statistics and Social Science at Carnegie Mellon University, was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Annals of Applied Statistics. The journal is published quarterly by the Institute for Mathematical Statistics and it aims to provide a timely and unified forum for all areas of applied statistics. Professor FIENBERG’s appointment is for a period of 3 years and it commenced on 1 January 2013.

PTC’13 Young Scholars Program

LARC is delighted to announce that our Research Fellow, Dr. Gwangjae JUNG has been selected as one of the young scholars for the PTC’ 13 Young Scholars Program.

PTC’s Young Scholar Program aims to recognize, encourage, and support up-and-coming scholars in the field of information and communication technologies (ICTs).

Dr JUNG has been invited to present his research paper at PTC’s 35th consecutive annual conference, which will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii from 20 – 23 January 2013.

Professor Ramayya KRISHNAN is Elected a Fellow of INFORMS

LARC is delighted to announce that Professor Ramayya KRISHNAN, member of LARC Steering Committee, and Dean of Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University has been elected a Fellow of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). The Fellow Award is presented to distinguished individuals who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments and made significant contributions to the advancement of operations research and management sciences. On top of his active involvement as a long-standing member, Professor KRISHNAN was the past president of the INFORMS Information Systems Society and the INFORMS Computing Society.
